DenturesA denture is a simple replacement for any teeth that are missing as well as the surrounding tissue. These are also removable. Partial and complete dentures are available for our patients to choose from. Both can be useful to enhance your smile. If you feel that dentures are the right choice for you, our team at Robert F. Walker Jr. DDS is here to help you get the procedures done. We can provide you that smile you have been looking for. Complete DenturesComplete dentures are the type considered conventional. There are two types including conventional and immediate. The most common type is conventional. These will be designed after all of your teeth have been removed and have given the gums time to heal. The piece can be placed in the mouth sometime between eight to 12 weeks later. Immediate dentures can be designed ahead of time and placed in the mouth right after the teeth removal. This is beneficial because the patient will not have to go with no delay in healing. The issue is that your gums and bones may shrink during the healing period when the teeth are removed. This will need a few visits for adjustments with the immediate dentures to get them to feel good in the mouth. Partial DenturesA patient can also choose partial dentures. This is a type of bridge that will include replacement teeth that we will attach right on a plastic base. In some cases, this base needs to be put onto the framework that will hold it in the right place. This type of denture is good when several teeth are still present. This partial denture is good for filling in areas from your missing teeth while also keeping the teeth in their place. Our team is able to add in the dentures to help them look natural, especially when our patients choose precision partial dentures. Which Denture Should I Choose? For patients who still have teeth that can be used as anchors to the dentures, the partial denture is a good choice. These are more comfortable, look natural, and are less expensive. Whether you can use this or not will depend on the shape of the teeth left in the mouth and how many are present there. If most of the teeth are damaged or need to be taken out and the remaining teeth are not strong enough to support a device, then a complete denture is a better option to use. These will help replace all the teeth and will make the smile look complete and natural. You can work with one of our dental professionals to decide if a conventional or an immediate denture is right for your oral health needs.
